I threw a bit of a fit a couple of years ago when Tony accepted his position with Hormel Foods because it was moving me to "Where? Austin? Spam? Ew!" because I wanted to be closer to my family as we were having our first baby and of course I couldn't stand the thought of being far from friends. I have so many awesome friends who are like sisters to me and in that moment the most, I needed them.
People would remind me that I am outgoing enough and would have no trouble making new friends and to them I would say, "Right, but I don't want new friends. I like the ones I have." I was also worried about being able to relate to other people my age as I have a newborn and can't be young and care free anymore, and all of the people with kids are older than me and wouldn't take me seriously as an adult.
Only a couple of weeks into living in Austin and the three of us met the Hovlands. I cannot tell you what an amazing blessing their family has been in our lives and the people they are and the people they inspire us to be. Emily is this amazingly strong woman who always has a great take on everything and is a great listener. I am so thankful for her.
Since then I have been introduced to one admirable woman after another. I can honestly say that these mothers that I call friends are more like mentors to me. Their thoughtfulness and generosity is beyond me. From bringing each other meals after having babies and watching each others' kids to calling while they are out "just to see if you needed anything while I'm out" and coming over to take pictures of your kids for you. Meeting my group of friends here in Austin has been a Godsend and today I was reminded of it.
Thank you to my dearest of dear friends for everything, but mostly for your friendships.
