A nice little weekend

My nice little family had a nice little weekend. My nice husband didn't work for the first time in weeks and it was one of the few weekends that was just spent here and open and it was really just nice. Nice, nice, nice.

Remember my cousin Jenny? The one who got married in September and the picture she posted of my heffer arm is what started all this blog business? Well, she is expecting (YAY, JENNY!!). She is really going to be a great mom. I also feel like I must be cool now because growing up I always looked up to Jenny and of course I thought everything she did was cool. Now she is doing what I do....having babies. I am so ahead of the trends.

I was teasing my Aunt Nancy, Jenny's mom, at the rehearsal dinner back in September about hosting Thanksgiving this year down in Milwaukee. The John Weber clan (my dad's identical twin) hosts Thanksgiving for the Webers every other year and I so greatly look forward to it. I love the Webers.

ANYWHO, we got an invite this year. I naturally thought maybe we wouldn't be as I am no longer just one of the kids - I now have two of my own! It's like I have my own tribe these days. Tony has to work Wednesday and Friday of Thanksgiving week and his work schedule usually really messes with the holidays. I won't even go into the drama of past Christmases. My parents were going if we were going, and same with my brother and sister-in-law. No pressure.

Long story short, we (the girls and I) are going without Tony :( I don't want to make a habit of splitting up for the holidays but I badly want to go spend time with family we don't see often and I don't know that we will be invited again now that all of our families are growing. Tony isn't nearly as sentimental as I am anyway, so he will probably be happy to drink some beer and watch football in peace, though I do know Thanksgiving is his favorite because of the food... naturally.

Ramble, ramble, ramble. Last night I got carried away and decorated the fireplace mantel - stockings and all! I plan to paint the kitchen tomorrow after doing as much prep as possible today. Wish me luck.

As Tony and I were discussing the extra stocking that I had bought (when/if there's a third Otto baby...), Tony said, "We would be a family of five. That's heavy..." We realized too that we have been together for almost four years. Wow. To most married couples with two children it may seem normal but we are still trying to pinpoint when and how we became adults overnight. I think we are both in a bit of denial.

When I see my friends studying abroad or starting up exciting new careers and feel a bit jealous of their care-free lifestyles, I just remember that my day will come and when it does they will probably be starting their families. I, do love that I will be 38 when Lucy graduates from high school and 40 when Clara does. Being a young mom has its perks.

Besides, I wouldn't trade my life for all of the drinks at the bar or trips to Europe anyway ;)

  1. Anna-
I can't tell you how much I enjoy reading the blogs daily, I too feel the same way at times feeling a bit jealous seeing friends out there taking exotic vacations or jumping into new careers. As fast as I feel a tad jealous Taylor or Trevor fire back with something 10x's as cute :)
p.s. I brought out two Christmas candles, and a candy dish sunday...let the jingle bells begin now! :)

  2. I read your blog first thing this morning, Anna! I love it. I love the holidays so much as well and I'm glad you'll be able to spend Thanksgiving with your extended family. Also coming from someone who can be a little carefree as I do not have children yet I assure you your two little girls are definitely more worthwhile. You and Tony will just have to take that trip to Europe when you're 40 :)
